It appears that fewer and fewer Republicans want to be associated with the harsh, hateful and Anti-Presidential rhetoric that Rush Limbaugh is known for. And that appears to be a good thing for democrats seeking office. It only takes a small percentage of voters to change an election and if 1% to 2% of conservatives no longer relate to Rush's harsh manner and decide to support more moderate democratic candidates - as they appear to have done in the 2008 Presidential election - then Rush could be helping the democrats more than he is the republicans. Sure the hard core ditto head base with always love and swoon over Limbaugh, but that group in not in play when it comes to election time - they will vote republican no matter what else is going on. So if you take those votes as a sure thing and start looking at who is on the fence and who is the swing group, I think Rush is actually pushing that group away from the far right and even losing some of them to attractive democrats like President Obama.
I think the last thing democrats want to do is to silence Rush or tone him down at all. He is doing enough to hurt the republican party on his own.
