Imagine the impact talk radio could have if the most influencial shows and hosts focused their time, energy and air time on helping our nation's leaders build alliances.  Instead much of what you hear on The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show is nasty, divisive and mean spirited and promotes the idea of "Americans attacking Americans". That is destructive to our nation as a whole. .

Michelle Obama made a statement in her speech to the Democratic Convention on August 26, 2008 that said in effect - "we can disagree and still treat each other with dignity and respect."   That is the type of high moral character and high class that is demonstarted by the Obamas.  And if that is the definintion of character and class, I guess that is not something we will ever see from the talk radio shows like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity..... character and class.

I believe the Rush Limbaugh Show and other talk radio shows  feel they are doing the right thing - they are promoting their own political agenda.  And they have every right to do so.  Rush claims to be right over 99% of the time, and he may well be.  I respect a lot of his opinions and his right to express them.  Unfortunately, the one time he is wrong, he is dead wrong. His failure to recognize that the extreme polarization of Americans, caused by his poisonous attacks on any opposing group, will destroy this nation faster than any external terrorist could ever hope to.

The political environment in America is dominated by politicians and news media that constantly "repackage the truth" to persuade voters to either accept a policy or to persuade voters to reject a candidate of an opposing party.

We need to find ways to work together in a positive fashion to solve common problems.We need a complete shift in "running the business of our country". 

Imagine two business managers in a large company that have different strategies for success.  And imagine if manager #1 called a press conference everyday to tell the press that manager #2 was to blame for all the problems with the company.   Plus he would then make up lies to tell the press about manager #2 and insult his wife in the process.  Could these two managers then return to the negotiating table the next day and work successfully to solve the compamy's issues?  Every single American knows that scenario will not work....and yet we continue to elect politicians that behave just like that everyday.  We need a major change. 

When the media continually looks for divisive stories and opportunities to cause friction and divide our nation, they have become part of the problem.  But the media only has one goal in mind - to make money....and they do not care if it destroys our country.  When freedom of the press is used to destroy the very government that fought for that freedom, the press may soon report on its own demise.   

Talk radio shows such as "The Rush Limbaugh Show" and "The Sean Hannity Show" go further than just reporting the destructive, extreme partisanship that is played out in our political leaders.  They actually create, exaggerate, magnify and take pride in trying to destroy anyone who has a different political agenda....and that will divide and destroy our democracy and our freedom of speech.

As Americans interested in a properous nation, we need to join our voices to protest the use of gross misinformation and "repackaged truths" that will destroy our country.  Regardless of which political party you belong to or support , we need to insist on a nation that deals in truth, positive political campaigns and realize that we are all Americans first - and say "Don't RUSH me" anymore.
