My thoughts on Shows & Hosts
The Rush Limbaugh Show (RLS): Rush is obviously the leader of the genre and gave talk its new birth. Rush is a brilliant commentator and entertainer. I enjoy his show when I have the chance to listen and his humor is often creative and unique. I find myself often agreeing with his opinions (but not always). Rush has a great deal of influence on listeners and maybe even politicians. The down side of RLS is that the humor and parodies often come across to listeners as racist, feminist and offensive. Rush has a loyal fan base that refer to themselves as "ditto heads". While Rush often uses his humor in a tongue-n-cheek fashion, some listeners are not keen enough to understand and may overreact to his "stated mission". This is evidenced by callers who often sound like lost puppies looking for the master's approval. While I may agree with many of RLS positions, I am TOTALLY AGAINST his constant use of petty name calling, personal attacks and divisive rhetoric that I feel can ultimately divide and destroy our nation. RLS has recently acknowledged on-air that the constant negative attacks are not helping the conservative cause. If RLS would use all its influence, energy and resources to focus on the real universal problems facing our country, his positive influence would be enormous - but then again he would not make as much money.
The Sean Hannity Show (SHS): SHS does not seem to have the creativity or personality of Rush's show and comes across as a junior Rush wannabee. SHS talking points are "by the book" conservative opinions and are predictable and obvious. SHS often seems unable to responds to callers that express different opinions and deals with it by cutting them off and playing a recorded insult. SHS lacks imagination and real substance as far I can tell. A good example of this is whenever the show wants to organize a movement it uses the same name with a one word substitution - such as "The Stop ----- Express". Fill in the blank with "Hillary", "Obama" or even your own name - again predictable and lacks imagination. SHS should send Rush a thank you note and a referral fee everyday for making this show possible. Again, SHS resorts to personal attack, name calling and insults when he disagrees and I think listeners are getting bored with the lack of substance and negative tone. You cannot be "a great American" when you constantly resort to immature insults that are hurting our country.
The Neal Boortz Show (NBS): Actually my favorite talk show because the host is just plain funny in his own way, flirts with political incorrectness in a way that is refreshing, and comes across as a guy you would love to sit and have a beer with. And having Royal as a worthy sidekick who is willing to challange Neal when needed is a nice addition. Even more positive is the fact that I totally agree with the FAIR TAX proposal and would like to see both presidential candidates support this measure. Sure NBS can rag on the dems a lot and it is obvious he will do all he can to defeat Obama. I still like his style and he relies on logic and business sense instead of insults to make his points. Every now and then Neal shows he is out of touch with us little guys when he makes claims that the economy is really not bad. NBS says it is just the headlines in the mainstream media...well look at my IRA, my gas bill and the national debt Neal and tell me it is just the headlines. Sorry you missed that one buddy.
The Laura Ingraham Show (LIS): Well not much to say here - because there is not much to say. I listen occaisionally on the way to the office but I do not hear a lot of substance. Kinda like a watered down female Hannity - few new ideas and very predictable. On more than one show I listened to, her main opinions focused on the dress Hillary was wearing and other shallow topics. But she is kinda cute...and her show on Fox News is OK if you turn the sound off.
